Having Solved All Other Crime…
April 6th, 2008 | by Craig |…the city of Bozeman is now keeping the streets safe from parking violations.
A new patrol car outfitted with four exterior cameras is helping the Bozeman Police Department identify illegally parked cars.
The car with two cameras in the front and two in the back has a $65,000 digital tracking system that has been in use for about a month. It has taken over some of the work previously accomplished by having personnel walk along Bozeman streets to spot illegal parking and write tickets.
[...]
Vehicles’ license plates are scanned electronically, with the information and a photographic image then downloaded to a computer inside the patrol car. An officer driving at 20 to 25 mph will be informed if a scanned vehicle has been parked for longer than two hours.
Money from parking permits and tickets covered the cost of the cameras, said Chris Pope, chairman of the Bozeman Parking Commission.
Take heart, Bozemanites. That $65,000 investment is going to pay for itself Real Soon.
