I’m clueless about the program. Like my favorite all time sci-fi epic Babylon 5, it’s a long story arc, with Babylon 5, I got in right at the beginning so I wasn’t lost…I’ll have to watch it someday. I just know the hot chicks are robots or something….
Craig, I was going to paste this elsewhere, but it probably gets more appreciation here. It’s was a comment by Turner on the BSG post, on Ace of Spades.
Obama=Baltar
Both are political candidates that appear on my TV screen. Which one is real and which one is fiction?
Both are eloquent Messianic figures surrounded by bizarre worshippers in their cult-of-personality.
Both are opposed by candidates whose religious followers stick to scripture.
Both ran on the need for hope and change.
Both accuse the opposition of fear mongering about an external threat.
Both say that we can end the conflict by just laying down our burdens and walking away from it.
Both want to stop human space flight. Obama by delaying the new manned Constellation program and Baltar by having everyone settle on New Caprica.
Both would have us defenseless against enemy missile attacks, Baltar by allowing the Cylons access to the Colonial Defense Network and later by stripping the Galactica and Pegasus of crew, and Obama by cancelling our anti-missile systems and delaying the development of all new weapons.
Both have a mysterious past filled with nefarious connections, whether to the Cylons or to Saddam Hussein (Hussein’s billionaire Iraq pal Nadhmi Auchi gave the money that Rezko apparently used to buy property for Obama).
Both have connections to terrorists. Baltar routinely met with the anti-war bombers on Cloud Nine and Obama announced his entry into politics in the home of unrepentant members of the Weather Underground who tried to blow up US Army officers in New Jersey.
They might as well be the same person.
NO WAR FOR TYLIUM!
And remember, Laura Roslin and Hillary Clinton stood with freedom fighters and dodged sniper fire.
Conservatives should probably be careful drawing parallels that suit their ideology, considering the end of season 2/season 3 involves an occupation and an insurgency (with suicide bombers) in which the “good guys” are the insurgents and Baltar is put on trial for war crimes resulting from that occupation.
On the other hand, one of the reasons it’s a great show is because there are parallels with points of view on current events that you both agree and disagree with and there are no easy answers to be had.
At its best, anyway. Other times, we get episodes about boxing.
I just started on season two last night. Of course I had to watch this entire clip. Curse you, Craig! But at least I know how they got that nutcase commander from Razor, now. That was the first BSG I ever saw, and needless to say, it was confusing.
Did anyone see Letterman’s Top Ten Reasons to watch BSG? It’s on YouTube. He had ten members of the cast up there, and Starbuck’s line was “We shoot robot aliens. Same s*** as last year.” At least BSG knows to quit when they’re ahead. Stargate never figured that one out. I tried to like Atlantis, MTSentinel, but next season’s changes sound awful, to say the least. Don’t think I’ll be watching.
In fact I was just complaining to my husband that when when BSG wraps up it’ll be about time for Stargate Continuum to be released, but after that things look pretty bleak for TV scifi. Unless there’s something new coming down the pipeline, I’ll just be watching old DVDs, I guess.
If you’d labeled it “spoilers” I would have just hit the “play” button faster. I have no will power whatsoever. I always read the end of the book first, too.

In the last two weeks I’ve re-watched season 3 and started watching the entire series again from the beginning, just to keep my anticipation in check.

They should have mentioned that the silver mechanical cylons are 70’s models and that Starbuck used to be a guy.
Guess I sort of found myself making comparisons with regard to the original BG.

I watched about 20 seconds of that before I stopped - no need to spoil anything.
I’m actually really enjoying Stargate: Atlantis lately. Good stuff.
I think I’ll pick up BSG next!

Sorry Dani. I should have put a spoiler warning on that.
I did catch the cast on Letterman. That was some funny stuff.
