I’m shocked you didn’t score higher. No offense.

I think it’s because I had a couple of “normal” answers in there like “Whatever happened to dinner and a date.”

Not nerdy enough for the nerds and too nerdy for the normal people.

♪Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.♪

I hear ya. Sometimes you try to answer like you think normal people would answer. It skews the results.

Wow! I’m geekier than you, hon..and all I had to do was guess. I scored an 86 percent.

    Wheee!

Extra questions needed, since the quiz doesn’t measure paleogeekitude:
    (1) Was your first personal computer a PDP-11?
    (2) Did you ever develop a moon-lander computer game that used an oscilloscope for its graphical display?
    (3) Ever told your girlfriend “Not tonight, sweetie - I’m wire-wrapping the backplane on a VAX”
    (4) Can you code a ROM based floating point calculator (including square root function) in less than 2 kilobytes of assembler (256 bytes of scratch RAM allowed)?
    (5) Did you learn to type on an 029 keypunch (extra credit if you know what a keypunch is)?
    (6) Have you ever programmed a machine tool using paper tape?
    (7) Can you describe the architecture of the Z80 in 10 words or less?
And finally, for double credit, have you ever bootstrapped a MITS Altair to cassette from the front panel switches?
(By the way, real programmers wear cheap suits and black shiny FBI shoes, just like real engineers :-)

I think I can get half credit on #2, as I spent months typing in code into an Apple //+ (not even an ‘e’ model) from a magazine using someone else’s program. I very clearly remember typing

    REM**OSCILLOSCOPE**

and thinking ‘where in the heck am I going to find an oscilloscope’.

Sadly, my teacher flaked and took away computer privileges late in the quarter and I never did get to finish the program.

Actually, he had sound reason for taking it away. Someone replaced the *001 HOME program on his master disk with a very basic subroutine. Shame on the person who did it, too.

    10 HOME
    15 SPEED=100
    20 ?”MR. GRAY IS A DICK!!!!”;
    30 GOTO 20

Note: in between each of those exclamation points was a <ctrl-g>

    yeah, irritating is correct.

42% - That’s like way wrong though. I’m not a computer geek, but am totally nerdy in all other possible ways.

Yay! I’m 60%. I was afraid the last year in the legal community had killed my geek brain.
