Karl Ohs Passes
November 25th, 2007 | by Craig |Karl Ohs, 61, of Harrison, passed away with his wife, Sherri, and family by his side at approximately 9:30am this morning at his home in Helena.
Karl had been fighting brain cancer after being diagnosed in March of this year. Karl served as Montana’s Lieutenant Governor from 2000-2004. He also served in the Montana Legislature, and is most widely recognized for his actions which ended the 1996 Freeman Standoff in Jordan, Montana.
Funeral arrangements and services are pending.
I’ve known Karl since I was in 5th grade, when he was coaching our fledgling wrestling program. You’d have to look high and low to find a more decent, honest guy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My condolences on the passing of a stand-up gentleman. There aren’t enough decent, honest guys in the world, so it’s sad to have to lose another good one.

Although I didn’t know Lt. Gov. Ohs, I would like to send his wife a note because my husband also died of brain cancer so I know a little bit of what she’s going through. If I just send it to her at Pony, do you think she would get it, or do you know of an address or e-mail address I could send it to?

Karen, if you send it to my address, I will guarantee it gets to Sherri and will deliver it personally.
Craig will vouch that I’ll do it if you have any concerns.
I can be reached at jp@pendletoncommunications.com and I will be heading to Helena on Thursday afternoon to see the family.

I’ll definitely vouch, and also mention that if you want to put something in the mail, I think an address of simply “Pony, MT” would be sufficient.

Wow, this really hit me hard. He was my 2nd cousin and even though I didn’t know him well, it still sucks that someone in my family has died.

This is his niece. He was a remarkable man and I’m sure is honored that so many will remember him for the Man he was on this earth. His reputation as an honest representative of the state will not be forgotten and I know he would like everyone to know that it was his Faith in Jesus that made him choose to be honorable. Thank you for your condolences. May his legacy continue not only in his family but this Great State.
And for the record, he died in his home in Helena even though he spent much of his last few months in Pony.

Although I never knew Karl well, I did spend time with his kids and others in his family. His decency and commitment to family was witnessed through the respect his children showed him. My heart aches for the pain his passing causes those who knew him best. May you find comfort in the many memories that you can share with one another.

Sincere condolences to Karl’s family.
I was the FBI Agent in Charge of the arrest operation of the Freemen at Jordan, Mt. Karl and I spent a lot of time together talking about how to resolve this difficult arrest situation. Through his extraordinary efforts and personal commitment, a peaceful outcome was secured. This tremendous person will be missed.

I am sorry for your loss, LeeAnn, but would also like to send my condolences to the Ohs’ children and their mother,Pam. So often the children from the first marraiges are given less recognition and acknowledgement in these sorts of affairs. I personally would like to say that each of Carl’s four children will carry on traits, strengths and attributes that can only be passed on through heritage and close parental bonding through the formative years. Your Father’s kindness and spirit will live on through you. God Bless you All.

Karl was a thoughtful, steady, kind, and good man. This world is a lesser place without him.
