Shuffle Meme [Answered]

October 11th, 2007 | by Craig |

UPDATE: I filled in the blanks for you. I have a hunch some of you will be slapping your foreheads, unless you Googled already. Thanks for playing!

Saturdays are good days for memes, and I took this one from McGehee, and you can find the pedigree on his post.

The rules are as follows:

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, write down the first lines of the first twenty-five songs that come up, and then have people guess which songs they are.

I should DQ JP right out of the gate, since his music knowledge is not only encyclopedic, but his taste is similar to mine.

As folks get them, I’ll strike them from the list.

There are some in there where I cheated a little bit. If the title was in the first line of the song, I took the first verse.

No Googling, Please!

Since nobody’s jumping in to the meme, I’ll play a bit. I’ll admit there are some stumpers on this list, and I’m not going to google them out of pride if nothing else.

    1. Asia / Heat of the Moment *kickass*
    3. Fuel / Metallica
    11. Piano Man / Billy Joel
    14. Chatanooga Choo-Choo / Glen Miller?
    17. Freeze Frame / J. Geils Band

There are others that are earwigging me, but I can’t pin ‘em down just yet. Others I will freely admit I am clueless.

    Good list.

    I coulda sworn I put a “16″ in there, not a 1.

Grrr. The lyric for #20 seems familiar but I can’t place it.

BTW, this post brought a player (TMM) to my meme, so thanks Craig.

Oh, and #21 is “Surrender” by Cheap Trick.

I know who sang #25 and in what, but have no clue of the title.

Hey, I’m a country fan, so yours was a little easier for me. I recognized some of Craig’s, but the answers were guessed right away. Maybe I need to re-grow my mullet, then they’ll come back to me.

[smacks head] Cheap Trick… of course… Thanks McGehee. I’m about ready to start googling.

Yeah, JP had jumped right on the first two that I knew, and I’d about given up by the time I posted about #20.

    Then I looked at #21 and…

You did. It’s that stupid Markdown syntax thinking that you’re writing an ordered list.

I’m this (’ ‘) close to going back to Wordpress.

I’m tempted to say, “You’ve got to be kidding.” But I know you, and I know you are. :)

9.) Peace in the Valley — Johnny Cash version, I hope

I Googled it to make certain I was right before I embarrassed myself, but #24 is Black Sabbath, The Mob Rules. (I watched Heavy Metal way too many times when I was a younger …)

[Phil Hartman as Ed McMahon:] You are correct, sir!

So, you gonna fess on the rest, or keep us hanging?

Now, if you had some Rush or U2 lyrics on there, I would have chimed in. You won’t get much out of me if it involves glam rock. Skid Row? Mr. Big? Extreme? Ouch dude! Oddly enough, when I saw Rush in Salt Lake City in 1989 on their Presto Tour, you wouldn’t believe who opened for them. Mr. Big! Nearly ruined the evening for me.

I shouldn’t have missed either of those Iron Maiden songs. I supplicate myself for punishment, and acknowledge your wisdom in matters Metal.

    AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

    I can’t believe I couldn’t answer a HNK, JR. song!

And a Hank Sr., too. :)

In all fairness, those are fairly recent Maiden tunes. “Brighter Than A Thousand Suns” is from their latest, “A Matter of Life And Death.” Definitely worth the cash, if you’re a Maiden fan. IMO, probably their best since Powerslave.

    And that’s saying something, there.

That was one of those “inspirational” songs, and I was raised Catholic. If it hadn’t been for the “Hee Haw” gospel quartet I never would have heard most of them, and I still don’t know the opening lines of more than three or four of the most often reprised ones.
