Adventures in Healthcare

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

As you are reading this, we are up at St. Pete's hospital here in Helena being induced. I say "we" as if I were an actual part of the process, but I will be about as helpful as a doorstop. I'll keep you posted as events unfold. They might have wi-fi ...

Why Indeed

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Today's gem from the Google seekers of knowledge: why are cooked beets sold? Indeed. In fact, I would go a step further and ask, "Why are uncooked beets sold? Or pickled beets, for that matter?"

Schedule Update

Monday, September 17th, 2007

There will be no podcast this week, just in case you might be one of the 3 listeners tuning in. OK, this is pretty short notice, but we're going to do a podcast at 9:30 a.m. MDT today. Topics will include, basically, whatever is on my mind, which is pretty ...

Sunday Picks

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Selected Week 2 Picks: Bills (0-1) at Steelers (1-0) The Line: Pittsburgh by 10. My Prediction: Pittsburgh 38 - Buffalo 10 Yeah, I'm a homer for the Steelers. You gotta problem with that? The Ben Roethlisberger that is playing right now is the 2005 version, not the 2006. ...

Profiling is OK, as Long as You Only Profile Males

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Agree or disagree, this article is worth a read. Here are the introductory grafs. These days, if Rian Romoli accidentally bumps into a child, he quickly raises his hands above his shoulders. "I don't want to give even the slightest indication that any inadvertent touching occurred," says Mr. Romoli, an ...

When In Rome…

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Here in Montana, if you show up in a Bozeman bar with Griz gear (or a Missoula bar with Bobcat gear), the worst that you'll probably be subjected to is some merciless taunts. Not so in Oklahoma, where they're just plain nuts about football.

Seems Like This Would Be Bigger News

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

The states top 3 Democrats step down, and there's nary a peep from anyone on the sinestra side of th aisle. As Arte Johnson once observed: "Veddy interesting."

The Older She Gets, The Slower We Go

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

It's been busier than all get-out around here, so I forgot to get this post up until, well, just now. I haven't scheduled any guests for tonight, since I wasn't even sure that I would be here. (Heck, I still may not.) So I've got some topics on my ...

Administrivia

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Some trivial notes: 1.) I was planning on doing something nifty for my 10,000th comment. That's quite the milestone, and I thought it might be spiffy to recognize that person. As it turns out, though, it was me, so I win the prize, whatever it might have been. 2.) ...

The De-Valuation of Human Life

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

So you say that we haven't de-valued human life, huh? Then, please explain to me how a middle school principal can get off scot free for letting her toddler bake in a car, yet we crucify Michael Vick for killing dogs? Not that killing dogs is right, mind you. I just ...

Rope, Tree, Some Assembly Required.

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Honestly, why do we even bother letting guys like this continue to waste our precious oxygen and expel a dangerous greenhouse gas? In court records and at the hearing, McKittrick argued that the judge should view the videotape of the rape made by Lacey before imposing a sentence. The judge agreed ...
