Yeah, What He Said

September 26th, 2007 | by Craig |

If my email account ended in aol.com, I might say “Me too.” (Old Usenet joke — is there any other kind?)

Or, to use an expression from a more recent venue, I would simply say, “This.”

I pondered how I might respond to this for a while. Rather than categorically detail how I agree with this and disagree with that, perhaps an olive branch is called for here.

Therefore from this liberal, atheist, great society fag to the 51 percent of voters who disagreed with me: I’m sorry. I’m sorry to have partaken in the vitriol. I’m sorry to have underestimated you. I’m sorry to have dismissed you so readily. And although I do not apologize for thinking and believing as I do, I’m sorry I didn’t do more to love and understand you as my beliefs dictate I must. I will try to become a better human being, and hope everyone feels similarly compelled to do the same.

    David–

Personally, you don’t owe me an apology at all. In our exchanges here, you’ve been nothing but erudite and civil (unlike other people I could mention), and I appreciate that immensely.

As to other local sites, I’ve stayed out of those discussions, for reasons I think you’ll agree are clear.

My biggest hope for post-election was that we could get back to the sharp crackle of good debate, and focus the nuts and bolts of how to, well, MoveOn, to coin a phrase.

There are obviously places where we’ll never be able to agree, but I think we’d find a lot of common ground, too, and at the end of the day we should be able to shake hands, have a beer and agree to disagree.

As for me, I welcome your comments here anytime, and hope that you feel welcome to share them.
