Sunday Picks
September 16th, 2007 | by Craig |Selected Week 2 Picks:
Bills (0-1) at Steelers (1-0)
The Line: Pittsburgh by 10.
My Prediction: Pittsburgh 38 - Buffalo 10
Yeah, I’m a homer for the Steelers. You gotta problem with that? The Ben Roethlisberger that is playing right now is the 2005 version, not the 2006. Not having a near-fatal cycle crash nor an appendectomy has allowed him to focus on football, and it shows. Willie Parker racked up 109 yards last week, and Najeh Davenport looks to be a good acquisition for the power running game. The Bills, on the other hand, looked rather pathetic against an anemic Denver team, allowing the Donkeys to pull out a last-minute victory. This won’t even be close.
FINAL: PIT 26, BUF 3 At least I was only 5 points off on my predicted spread.
Colts (1-0) at Tennessee (1-0)
The Line: Indy by 7.
My Prediction: Indy 35, Tennessee 28
The Titans looked pretty good last week, with the exception of Vince Young’s 2 INT’s. The Colts, however, have started this season where they left off, and look as tough as ever. To beat the Colts, the Titans will have to play a nearly perfect game. Lest we forget, the Titans were one of four teams to hand Indy a loss last year, so we know they’re capable. Just not this week.
FINAL: IND 22, TEN 20 That was some game, huh? The Titans look to be contenders this year.
San Diego (1-0) at New England (1-0)
The Line: New England by 4.
My Prediction: San Diego 24, New England 21
Yup, exactly the score from their last meeting, with the Chargers coming out on top. The Chargers have the talent in LT, Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates, and they’re going to want to redeem themselves for last year’s playoff loss. The Cheaters Patriots definitely have the offensive tools, and Randy Moss has (at least through one game) returned to his former ability. In the end, though, the Bolts will pull it off because they will be able to keep the ball on the ground and chew up TOP.
GOING TO BED Cripes. Wake me up if the ‘Bolts make it to Foxboro. Sheesh.
My “Can’t They Both Lose?” Pick
Cincinnati (1-0) at Cleveland (0-1)
The Line: Cincinnati by 7.
My Prediction: Cincinnati 24, Cleveland 10
Did you catch Cincy’s win last week? It looked more to me like a Ravens loss more than a Bungles win. Steve McNair should have been Cincy’s MVP for that game. And did Cleveland drop Charlie Frye like a hot potato or what? From starter to trade in less than a half. Personally, I think they should just bypass all the QB “controversy” and get Brady Quinn going. There’s no teacher like experience, and the sooner he gets it, the better for the Browns. Still and all, being an AFC North guy, my ideal scenario is that they both lose. The young QB situation will kill Cleveland’s offense, and Carson Palmer and the Bengals offense will be tough for the Browns to stop.
FINAL: CLE 51, CIN 45 Wow. I couldn’t have been more wrong on this one. Did the defenses even take the field?
Then again, I could be full of shit on all of these. It’s happened before.
[UPDATE 12:52]: So far the last sentence is the only thing I’m remotely close on.
[UPDATE 14:35]: Final scores inline.

Two words: *Steely McBeam*.
Of course I say this fully knowing my Lions will likely get beaten like a rented mule by the Vikes defense today.

When I was checking the lines this morning, the Lions were 3 point favorites.
I just can’t bring myself to root for Detroit. Unless, of course, they are playing the Cowboys, then I’m blue and silver all the way.

The Lions have been known to blow a 3 line before. Don’t think they’ve been favored by much more than 3 in recent memory though.
And I’m about the same if it were a ‘Boys - Vikes game. Purple Reign.

My Chargers are looking VERY inept. I didn’t think I’d ever pine for the return of Schottenheimer! Patriots look like the real deal. Colts/Patriots Super bowl followed by a thrashing of the NFC champ in the real super bowl?

The San Diego-New England game should’ve been sponsored by the United States Postal Service seeing as *the Chargers mailed this one in*.
Detroit is 2-0. If anybody needs me, I’ll be my bunker — for the world is coming to an end.
Arizona beats Seattle. Armageddon outa here!!!
