Populism is probably a good check on elitism, but it seems like pupulism simply gets hijacked by other elites who are out of power. For example, the Bryan-Free Silver movement seemed to get co-opted by Progressivism. And FDR tried to use populists as one of his interest groups after Huey Long was out of the way.
And now..I’m not sure what “the people” want. Is there really a great populist movement afoot, besides the one in Edwards’ fantasies? The only one I see is for border enforcement.
