More Gov’t Largesse for Energy Interests?
July 31st, 2007 | by Craig |The left-wing often discredits a free market in energy because of the ability of corporate interests to dominate the system at the expense of the environment and the little guy. Other than the fact that such a market is not free but fascist, my other response has been that gov’t intervention in energy markets is the reason that corporate energy interests dominate the system and alternative energies aren’t able to compete when powerful corporate interests are able to secure gov’t largesse. This NY Times story (via FEE In Brief) says it all in my opinion. Nuclear energy interests are seeking gov’t largesse to gain an advantage over competitors. That’s fascism. So, as I’ve responded to left-wing arguments, if you don’t want the gov’t to determine which powerful corporate interest wins or loses in the marketplace for energy, get the gov’t out of energy markets. If you want well-heeled lobbying shops to determine who wins or loses instead of consumers, then continue to advocate gov’t intervention in energy markets. Maybe consumers don’t want energy produced by nuclear power plants, maybe they do. Let the market make that determination, not the gov’t.

No comments here, but at least we’ve got ONE major newspaper editor in Montana that gets it:
