Your Legislature at Work
February 15th, 2007 | by Craig |While in high school, I worked at a minimum wage job for a large federal government program. I think I made a whopping $3.19/hour at the time.
Which is neither here nor there, but it was a funny place to work, since there was one guy who had the dryest sense of humor I’ve ever heard. He could deadpan anything and make you roll with laughter.
One day, we were eating lunch and someone noted the absence of the “Big Boss.”
Old Earl said, “Yeah. He’s off to $OTHER_SITE to pick up a dump truck.”
He paused.
“We really f***ing need that,” he deadpanned.
You probably had to be there, but it was killer.
So, in honor of Earl, I’m saying: We really f***ing need this.

But Craig – just think of how many people this will help! It will make the lives of everyday, working-class Montanans just THAT. MUCH. BETTER!

You’re correct, David.
I should have taken that into consideration, and I thus remove my objection to our legislature wasting time on stupid crap like this.

Perhaps the theory is to play the lullaby before each convening of the state legislature in order to sooth the hostile atmosphere between the parties.
“Okay, Senators; next up we have milk and crackers, and then we’ll all grab our favorite binkies and cuddle up for the state lullaby. Then we’ll debate the budget.”

When will the people in the various legislative bodies (from school boards to city councils to state legislatures to the United States Congress) ever understand that they were hired by the voters. And that the voters did not hire them to waste time with Trivia.
