Draining The Swamp — Still With a Sieve

January 8th, 2007 | by Craig |

I’m stealing the blockquote from this link, emphasis and all:

During four decades of Democratic rule ending in 1994, committee chairmen amassed almost unchallenged authority, often becoming more feared and influential than the elected leadership. They were nearly impossible to budge from their perches, and the concept of term limits was unimaginable. In a move that caught some new Democratic chairmen by surprise, House rules pushed through by the Democrats this week retained the six-year limit on chairmen imposed by Republicans, but the leadership reassured lawmakers they would revisit the restrictions when there was less attention focused on the dawn of the Democratic era.

Okay Craig, I went and read the article you referenced, and then the NY times article which that article referenced. While that article had several good quotes, the section you referenced, with emphasis, did not have much in the way of proof. If that is really their intent, then I will be as upset as you about it, and I will blog about it on my site to prove it, but I am not going to assume the Dems have an evil plot to hide the changing of chairmanship rules unless a quote, memo, etc is found that shows it. At least a pseudo-political ‘expert’ who can offer some rational explanation for it. Frankly, I am a bit surprised that you seem so eager to eat it up; you have always seemed more critical thank that.

Am I now required to confirm every piece of every article that I find interesting? If that’s in the bloggers operations manual, I must have missed it. If so, that’s going to seriously cut into my work time.

I point it out because it doesn’t surprise me in the least; not because they are Democrats, but because they are politicians. Politicians are about two things: getting power, and keeping power.

If the Republicans were doing this, I’d point it out just the same. I know you think the Democrats are all about rainbows, sunshine and puppies, but I remember when they had the house prior to the ’90’s, and the way they ran it would make any capo proud.
