This One’s for the Book Snobs

You, know, the ones who look at your Stephen King collection and say in their haughtiest voice, “Oh, my good man, how droll. I spend my time reading only non-fiction that I hear about on NPR. And because of that I have an empathy that you clods could only imagine.”

Well, maybe they don’t say exactly that, but new research suggests that it is the fiction readers who tend to be more empathetic.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Jeeves.

I just knew that reading all of those Nancy Drew books would have a benefit for me.

Seriously, are those that pretend to be superior to my LARGE collection of Steven King worse than me, who hides his LARGE collection of Steven King novels. I only leave out the texts that Tami and I were required to read in our various humanities and history classes. No, seriously. I routinely defend Steven as one of the best storytellers of our time.

As far as the ‘empathy’ goes, doesn’t that pretty much rule out the conservat… never mind.
