Hmmm…I Wonder
October 19th, 2006 | by Craig |I often hear people ask, rhetorically, how the United States can stay competitive in a global market.
I don’t know, but it seems to me that teaching kids not to be competitive is a tad counter-productive.

Those Massachusetts people are brain dead! Er…wait a minute…
Seriously, aren’t people going a little too far with protecting children? As a parent, I’ve learned that sometimes you just can’t watch too closely, you know?

In defense of Cheyenne- Wyoming has a terrible problem with their liability laws. Basically, folks have an unfettered right to sue anyone, for anything, for any amount, and it would take a constitutional amendment to change that, which (I think) requires a 2/3 vote. I am surprised there is a doctor left in the state. I would bet there are also very few swing sets and swimming pools. (Not that it’s ever warm enough to actually swim, though).

Dani,
The medical liabilities are definitely a concern. Wyoming is on the list of places my (MD) wife and I would like to settle down. The biggest mark against it is the liability insurance situation. On the upshot, I’ve heard good things about some of the reforms put in to place recently.

What reforms? I’d be really interested to know- there’s such a need for doctors there, it always seemed ridiculous to me that they let it go on for so long.
Maybe you could get the hospital to pay the premiums, all they have to do is a market analysis to demonstrate community need and hospital benefit (that’ll be easy). That worked for one doctor I knew who was paying $90k a year as an FP to do normal deliveries, no surgery!
