Waterboarding
October 3rd, 2006 | by Craig |If you’ve ever wondered what waterboarding is, you can have a look.
Is it torture?
Me, I’m not so sure. To me, any experience where you can sit up straight at the end and say, “Wow. That sucked,” doesn’t strike me as something that I would consider torture.
Not that I’m going to jump in line to do it, mind you.

I think you hit the nail on the head and I thought the same thing when I saw him smiling a minute after it ended. On the other hand, if he has traumatic flashbacks when he closes his eyes or whatever, I am willing to re-examine the matter.

No, it’s great fun! I am a member of a fetish club where we waterboard each other for fun…
Sure, it is doesn’t look that bad there in short term, but imagine having it done for hours and hours on end. Chinese water torture is not bad for a few minutes either…

The interrogator said at the start that most people last no more than 2-3 minutes, IIRC.
The reporter went for 24 minutes before the producer called it to a halt.
Further, the reporter had done it before.
Again, my hunch is that if something is truly torture, you won’t find many people who would say, “Yeah, I’ll give it another shot.”
Look, I’m not condoning it, or saying it’s something we ought to be doing; it’s just that when we start defining torture to be something as inane as sleep deprivation, I wonder where it will end.
Can I bring charges against my 3 kids for 10 years of torture?

Is this the point where two slippery slopes meet?
Look, I’m not condemning it, or saying it’s something we shouldn’t be doing; it’s just that when we start defining intergation techniques to be something as harsh as sleep deprivation, I wonder where it will end.

What a crock. If waterboarding is torture, than every single pilot that the US military trains has been tortured. Not to mentioned slapped around, sleep deprived and starved. It’s called survival evasion resistance and escape school (SERES). Does it suck? Yes. Does it wear you down mentally? Heck yes. Is it going to forever damage the recipient? Absolutely not.
