But She Loved Her Baby, I Swear
September 24th, 2006 | by Craig |Read this while keeping in mind the following quote:
“She loved her baby and would never hurt her,” Kenneth Gilbert said.
I dunno. Compulsory sterilization seems like a good option here.

Oh I can see this getting ever uglier and even wierder very quickly… There are just SO MANY individual reasons to be disturbed here…
Who goes on a date and leaves a 4 month old at a homeless shelter?
What in the Hell kinda’ guy dates a woman with a 4 month old from a homeless shelter?
Who in the shelter actually handed an infant back to a drunk 18 year old?
The list goes on…

Yes, the list goes on…Why weren’t cops and/or social service workers called when drunken 18-yr-old returned to claim the baby?
Who really is in charge of the homeless shelter? Catholics or DHS? Or are residents just unsupervised?
How long before a lawsuit is filed against the homeless shelter or DHS?

“She loved her baby”, yeah that’s what they all say.
A colleague once remarked that the state would save a lot of money by offering some people $10K & a trailer in exchange for ‘voluntary’ sterilization. Sad, but true.
And Amber, if you saw the kind of men who dated these women, you’d understand. *shudder* It ain’t pretty.

Almost every shelter has very tough rules against drugs and alcohol, which is one reason why we see quite a few homeless out on the streets. Chronic alcoholics can also function amazingly normally with blood alcohol levels that would kill you or me, so it doesn’t surprise me if she made it past the front desk. As for supervision, these residents are free adults, not inmates, children or the mentally handicapped. Many workers at shelters are volunteers, too. And there can’t be that many that want to be up at 4 am keeping the weirdos out of the women’s shelter.
Montana’s DPHHS doesn’t actually take care of people, but they are really good at telling other people how to take of people. I imagine the New York DHS is the same. The funny thing, from the tone of the article, you’d think it was the fault of DHS or Catholic Charities, when it’s clearly the mother’s. Well, we know no good deed goes unpunished- I’m sure the natural reaction will be to shut down the shelter. That’ll do a lot of good for the more vulnerable of the women & children of New York
