If You Build It They Will Come

If you build it, will they come?

Evidently not.

Gotta love that free market.

This should be an object lesson for those who think that the market can be manipulated or controlled, but I doubt it will be.

    From the article:

The right wing is sure to seize on Air America’s financial woes as a sign that progressive talk radio is unpopular. In fact, Air America succeeded at creating something that didn’t exist: the progressive talk radio format. That format is now established and strong and will continue with or without Air America.

    Nuff said?

And of course Think Progress has no horse in that race. There’s a little credibility problem with all of that. N’est pas?

    Re: The article.

He doth protest too much, methinks.

Of course the right wing is going to point out the failure, since the right wing has known the whole thing was doomed to failure from day one.

You don’t build things from the top down, you build them from the ground up.

I honestly tried listening to Air America when it was in Missoula because I wanted to learn how and why the Liberal/Progressive mind works. Pretty much had it figured out in a couple of listening session. Oppose everything Bush says or does. Bush lied. Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld are Nazis. Bush stole the election. Bush is a dumb a**. You get the point. Same thing every day.

I thought it was very interesting when the format could not survive in the very left-leaning Missoula. Even the liberals didn’t want to listen to it.

Andy, you think that Rush is any different? Nope. They are both sucky to be sure.

Being a Rush listener for many years, I have found him to be very entertaining and able to articulate substance to his positions and beliefs. He treats his callers with respect and dignity as long as they do the same. He even puts liberal callers to the top of the order.

He’s been on the air for nearly 20 years and revived the AM radio format. He relies on the free market for funding his show and has become very wealthy because of it.

I just have to add this to the archives from The Corner:

Air America, R.I.P. [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
    An e-mail:

ALL the Air America Radio on-air spin from Randi Rhodes, Stephanie Miller, Sam Seder, et all has the same sound byte: “We’ve succeeded in creating something that didn’t exist before.”

They certainly have: They’ve discovered the only talk radio format that NOBODY WANTS TO LISTEN TO— liberal talk. Virtually every other talk radio format— conservative talk, sports, news, cooking shows, the Car Talk guys, Stern, et all—has found audiences and sponsors. Only Air America Radio’s mix of left-wing blather and bad on-air talent has succeeded in repelling even the most devoted talk radio listener.

    Congratulations, Air America Radio!

Liberals don’t need think tanks, tv shows, and radio programs because they have two very influential entities in their camp — the government and the press. I’ve always argued that the biggest liberal think tank is the government itself. Consider: whenever some onerous land use regulation is proposed in local gov’t, local gov’t staff doesn’t objectively evaluate the merits of such policy. What they do is defend the merits of such policy. In fact, bureaucrats are not just technocrats, but lobbying technocrats. It’s hard to disagree with the technocrats because they are the “experts.” Hence, the burgeoning of gov’t via the perpetuation of bureaucracy.

I have also heard for years about the next liberal “Rush Limbaugh”. Hightower, Coumo, and others. All have failed while Conservative radio - Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingram, Reagan, Liddy - has flourished.
