Iowa Ahead of the Curve by -1 Years
September 6th, 2006 | by Craig |Iowa (acronym: I Oughta Went Around) finally decides to step up and revoke Jim Bischoff’s medical license, only a full year after his plea agreement in a negligent homicide case.
I’m probably being a little unfair, since Bischoff hasn’t practiced there for a number of years, but it just struck me as funny.

Actually, I think a year is pretty quick, given that is was an out of state license. Revoking a medical license isn’t easy, since the licensing body is almost always guaranteed a lawsuit in response (probably not in this case, though). Plus, I am sure Iowa only found out about this indirectly through some large databank, it’s not like someone gave ‘em a call to let them know. They don’t read our papers. So, the guy had to be convicted, entered into the database, and have his file flagged back in Iowa. Ten years ago, they might not have caught it at all.
Interestingly, I haven’t practiced there in fifteen years and haven’t practiced at all in three, but got a letter from Iowa recently. I was actually kind of impressed that they were still watching me. Glad the letter was good news!

At least I copped to being unfair, darn it!

Yes, you did, but I don’t really think you were unfair, it’s a valid point.
Just doing my part to defend the old alma mater!
