Right vs. Left

August 30th, 2006 | by Craig |

The “battle” between left and right, in my mind, has always been one between individualism and collectivism.

Where we should be is generally in the middle, I think. (Quelle surprise, non?)

Too much in one way or another leads to bad things, what with human nature being the way it is.

At any rate, a recent incident serves as anecdotal evidence to how we act on our political leanings.

A local Montana blogger was asking me about the benefits of Wordpress, and considering moving to his own domain. I offered to host a site on my space so that he could get the hang of it, if he liked.

On another site he announced that he was looking to move off Blogspot, and the offer was made (and accepted) to join the kollektiv.

Honestly, I think Shane will do well over there, and deserves all the eyeballs he can get, but I just thought the juxtaposition of offers — and acceptance — interesting.

[UPDATE]: Just so no one takes this as a dig against Shane or Matt. They’re both good guys, and I consider them both friends.

In deference to the Randian in you, let me say the offer was made in part out of self-interest. I’m too busy to keep up my old blogging habits and my site’s content is slowing down. I’d like to keep the level of content up, so I’m looking to expand my pool of contributors.

Of course, you’ve never offered blogging space to others at this site.

    ;)

Craig, I may take you up that offer yet. The offer from Matt is entirely different, as you point out, in that he was offering to assimilate me. My new name is 12 of 12 and we think as one.

You didn’t offer to assimilate me, only support me. I still would have turned you down because many of your commenters like give opposing viewpoints to my thoughts and that’s not very collecticable of them, to be sure!

That is to say that I still intend to keep wrongdog going, just change its content a bit.

If I didn’t hack on you some, you’d think I didn’t love you.
