Nerd Forgets Camera for Blogger Bash, Film At 11

August 6th, 2006 | by Craig |

My nerd cred dropped about 1000 points last night, as I went to a blogger bash sans camera.

Oh, I eventually remembered it, just before we pulled into the parking lot, but by then, it was too late to go back.

Fortunately, J. Random Blogger, otherwise known as Randy, had forgotten his, too, so I didn’t feel too bad.

Now, judging by the comments I’d received, I’d pretty much written the Bozeman contingent off as a total loss. However, Randy swung through Bozeman and guilted Kim into riding along with him. So, relax, Bozemanites, you were represented. And quite well, I might add.

At any rate, the Brewhouse was reminiscent of Yogi Berra’s famous quote: “No one goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.” Busy, busy, busy. Randy and I went in to see if anyone was already there, and lo and behold, we found Dave, already there, with bells on (figuratively speaking, of course).

We waited around for a while, and it looked like we would be the only ones there, so we grabbed a booth.

While catching up on old times, and enjoying some chow, someone came by, looked at Dave and said, “Are you Craig?”

To which Dave replied, “Yeah!”

We eventually sorted out our identity crisis, and introduced ourselves to Shane Mason from Wrong Dog’s Life Chest. Poor guy had apparently been wandering around the bar asking everyone if they were Craig. Fortunately, he found us before he was asked politely to leave!

Shane pulled up a stool, and we commenced to yakking. We covered everything from Fluffy Pigeons to Linux package managers to Simpsons quotes.

I’ve gone on at length about everyone else, so let me just say this about Shane. He’s a super-sharp guy, and I think we’ll be hearing more from him in the future. I’ve found that, most bloggers (with one or two notable exceptions), no matter where they may fall on the L-R spectrum, can usually sit down over beers and have a good discussion about things, have a good laugh, and agree to disagree over things. It’s all about the people, and Shane’s a good one.

You can find his write-up here, but bear in mind that I think the guy might be prone to exaggeration. :)

It was a pleasure, and perhaps the next time we do this, we’ll get even more folks to turn out for the geeky-good fun.

Man, I need to meet some of you folks! The only MT blogger I met was LITW’s “V,” and he got me free beers all night. It was a good experience.
