Sworn To Avenge

April 13th, 2006 | by Craig |

Condemned to Hell.
Tempt not the blade,
All fear the Sentinel.

Speaking of which, I contend that this is the perfect archetype metal song, for both lyrics and music. (Thanks, Montana Jones, for telling me what I was trying to say.)

What say you?

(P.S.: GMan, check your mail, por favor, if you haven’t already. Thanks!)

(P.P.S.: MP3 link subject to rapid disappearance.)

That’s a great song but I don’t know about perfect.

    OK, here’s my rationale:

    1.) Slow start
2.) Booming power chords, into diads
    3.) Pedal/Palm mute on A
    4.) Lyrics referencing:
        a.) Hell
        b.) Armageddon
        c.) Blade
        d.) Seeds of Death
        e.) Blood
5.) Half-time section in the middle, going to double time for the solo
6.) Rob Halford’s screams, especially on “condemned to Hell.”

Not bad. It seems like I’m always annoyed by Judas Priest, but this is quite good. Can’t say it’s the perfect metal song, though. Sorry Craig.

I like the Priest and that’s a decent track, but it’s hard to top Maiden. 2 Minutes has to be in the running for perfect metal song as well. (see comment #4)

    Up the Irons!

    Oh yeah!

[raises hand in ‘devil horn’ symbol]

I’ll back you on this one Craig. Great song.

    [bangs head]

But with perhaps one caveat to satisfy the dissenters. Instead of being the perfect metal song it is more like the perfect metal song archetype.

    [rocks on]

    MJ–

You are dead-on. That’s what I was getting at. Thanks for clarifying for me.
