The Good Old Days
January 14th, 2006 | by Craig |It used to be that playoff season was a cause for rejoicing for me just because we could watch other teams play besides Seattle and Denver. The regional nature of the NFL assumed that folks in the Rocky Mountain West must like one or the other or both.
(For you youngsters, this was when the Cardinals were still in St. Louis, the Rams were still in Anaheim, and the Raiders were in Oakland and/or Los Angeles.)
*sigh*

I remember two of those three; the Cardinals being the exception.
We always avoided the regional stuff by having one of those huge satellite dishes. Having east and west coast networks rocked. It worked even better for college football, as you could tune to some obscure satellite and get a feed from another network station, which often lacked commercials. Also very cool.

When I was a kid, we had the big C-Band dish, and watched a lot of football and basketball that way.
Dad, my brother and I were big Boston Celtics fans, so we used to watch the live feed from the games with Tom Heinsohn and the other guy (not Dick Stockton). The network would cut to commercial, but the feed was still live, so you got to hear the real color commentary.
And since Heinsohn was solidly in the Celtics camp, it was some pretty good stuff; hilarious when the Celts were having an off night.
