Geek Tribulations

Some of you have probably been wondering why I haven’t answered your mail in forever.

I haven’t been able to send mail for a while now, and I just today caved in and decided that it was nothing I could troubleshoot. I’d been through every configuration, and rebooted every piece of equipment in the house (of which there are plenty), and finally swallowed my pride and called tech support.

Turns out that my model of cable modem needs a firmware upgrade to send mail on the standard SMTP port. All that I had to do was enable SSL, and life is good.

If you’re a Bresnan customer, and you’re having trouble sending email, just set up your outgoing server so that it is using SSL on port 465, and life should be good.

For those of you who are waiting for email, I’ll try to get caught up as quick as I can.
