They Could Be The Real Deal This Year

November 8th, 2004 | by Craig |

It’s been a long dry spell for us Steelers fans. After last year’s dismal performance, I was only hoping to get back up to .500 this year.

Look out, though, the Steelers have knocked off the last two unbeaten teams, one right after the other.

They didn’t just win, either, they won with authority.

It’s hard not to draw comparisons to Steelers teams of old. Rookie QB Ben Roethlisberger looks like Terry Bradshaw in his prime and he has Plaxico Burress and Hines Ward as his Swann and Stallworth.

Jerome Bettis stepped down from his starting role to make room for Duce Staley, but proved that he could still make it happen, gaining 143 yards.

Their last trip to the Super Bowl was a disappointment, losing to the Cowboys in 1996.

Could this be the year the Steelers finally get “One for the Thumb?”

Now that they’re at the top of the league, maybe the local stations will carry their games more often. Just because we live out west doesn’t necessarily mean we want to watch the Donkeys (sorry Zombyboy) or the Seachickens.

Indicative of their record over the previous MANY seasons, once again there’s a dearth of Detroit Lions coverage on the tube as well. At least I have Turkey Day to look forward to. That, and they’re .500.

Hell yeah. Go Steelers. You know I live in NC and what games did we get? The hapless Panthers losing to the Raiders then the hated NY Giants losing to the Bears. Great coverage there NFL. Maybe now we’ll have more Steelers TV time.

Steelers look great. I hope they keep going. My lowly Chargers have been doing well, but they haven’t played too many good teams yet. I don’t expect much, but it would be nice to no longer be the league joke which little spoiled creeps like Manning refuse to play for. I became a fan during the Dan Fouts era- when they put up points like crazy but gave them up as quickly. 45 to 42 games were very fun. Tonight’s Monday night matchup might be akin to that.

Yes, Steelers look good. But this is why I have the NFL Sunday Ticket — how many Dolphins games do you think are getting national coverage? And I love the rookie announcers for the bottom-tier games — sometimes more entertaining than the game itself!
