Doctor Accused of “Mercy Killing” Arraigned
September 28th, 2004 | by Craig |James Bischoff, accused of deliberate homicide and drug charges was arraigned in District Court on Monday.
Judge Loren Tucker reduced his bail to $150,000, since Bischoff’s seemingly imaginary inheritance didn’t pan out. (Surprise, surprise.)
I found this interesting:
But on cross examination, Smith contended Bischoff’s confrontation with [Dr. Bruce] Hayward [Bischoff's successor] didn’t amount - under Montana law - to a threat to do physical harm. Bischoff’s statement to Hayward that “you’re next” referred to the possibility that the other doctor could face murder charges himself.
Bischoff has filed a formal complaint with the Sheriff’s Department against Hayward alleging he killed a patient with medication.
That must be the supposed “homicide” Bischoff wanted to report in his bizarre initial appearance.
Having talked with someone who is pretty close to this case, I know that there is a lot going on that isn’t being reported. My hunch is that, due to confidentiality issues, a lot of it won’t get out.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find that the families of a lot of patients who died under Bischoff’s “care” will be asking for investigations into their own loved ones’ deaths. I think that this thing is only just beginning.
