I wonder….
August 27th, 2004 | by Craig |Do you think the Guess-At-It editorial board will be voting for Kerry?
This piece is a fairly standard “Call. It. Off.”* piece, with all the requisite calls to stop smearing a veteran’s war record, and for President Bush to muzzle the 527’s, namely the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. (At least I’m assuming that’s the specific organization, since I could find no mention of Soros’ groups.)
I wonder how they feel about MoveOn.Org and Michael Moore’s “documentary?” I searched the Gazette archives, and I could find no official editorial position on the lies that were propagated in that piece of…ahem…campaign propaganda, although Ed Kemmick did write a column on the films lack of facts.
In looking at the situation of the SBVfT vs. Senator Kerry, it seems very clear to me that if Kerry’s record is so unequivocal on this, why hasn’t he signed a form to release his records? If it were me, I’d be signing that form .02 seconds after the ad first aired.
I don’t think we’ll see the end of attack ads, even if we were to abolish all 527’s since attack ads have proven to be singularly effective. What’s happening now are the obvious unintended consequences of McCain-Feingold, which anyone could see coming. To my way of thinking, money is something like running water — if you try to divert it or prevent it from going somewhere it’s already been, you’ll only succeed in making it take a different path to its eventual destination. It’ll end up in more or less the same place, serving more or less the same purpose.

Craig, attacks ads will never end because they work. The benefits outweigh the costs. That’s all there is to it.

Regardless of whether the editorial slants to Kerry or not, its the idea of putting a stop to 527s that I find appalling. Participating in a Democracy means a whole lot more than just shutting up and voting.
I do think the press is wimping out on all of this. On the one hand, they claim that they have to report all of this (as if objectively), and then editorialize about it (for Bush, for Kerry, whatever.) What the hell ever came of the press’ role of fact-checking? If the Swift Boat boys, or Micheal Moore, or anyone else is lying *report* that they are. It’s otherwise banal to call for anyone to apologize or be quiet … it assumes the conclusion that hasn’t been shown.

The press will not call Mr. Moore on the carpet for obvious lies since they ar 85% liberals. If anything comes to light against the SBVft you’ll see it very quickly.Apparently there isn’t anything to prove they are wrong or liars yet though…
Gee, I wonder why Kerry won’t release his military records to the press? His biggest problem is what came out of his mouth after he got back fron Nam though.

Again, it’s the idea that the candidate’s campaign seems to be tied to these ads. At least two of his advisors seem to have been involved. However, I think that we have to realize that the Swift Boat comments on how easy it was for Kerry to get medals in Vietnam make all Navy medals from that war suspect. Who else, perhaps retired admirals, benefited?

Kerry and the Democrats have a lot at stake and 35 years of lying is catching up to him.
537 groups have raised (get this!)…..
$187 MILLION for liberal and Democratic causes in their frenzy to beat Bush.
Nearly $10 million has gone to MoveOn to spread crap like comparing the President to Hitler.
To contrast, conservative and Republican causes have raised $46 million..Nearly 3/4 less money (and you say the President and the Republicans are beholding?).
Swift Boat Vets have raised $159 THOUSAND!
Boy, talk about a cost-effective s**t storm!
Kerry is going to have to spend another $50 Mil trying to convince people he’s not a lying-sack ‘o s**t!
O’l George S. will have to dig a little deeper…
Ain’t it grand!

The nice thing about all this is that the Swift Boats people are dealing with memory and all the facts coming out now tend to say they are wrong.

The thing about eyewitness accounts is that they are invariably wrong, no matter who you are.
In college, I “taught” a portion of the introductory Psych class. When we got to the chapter on eyewitness accounts, I conned a buddy of mine into bursting into the room right after class started, writing a weird saying on the blackboard and erasing it, saying something weird to me, then leaving.
After that, I asked all 10 people in the class to write down every detail that they could remember, including what he wrote, and what he said.
I got 10 different answers.
At any rate, it’s immaterial to the point, which is this: Senator Kerry said about Vietnam record, “Bring it on,” and now he’s saying, “Make it stop.”

“facts”….???????
What “facts” would those be?
There have been several other people jump into the fray in support of Kerry with their opinion. The fact of the matter is, that Kerry continues to block the release of the the only “facts” that remain..the official records–after action reports and supporting evidence for justification of the decorations…..
What possible motive would a “war hero” have to block access to the evidence?
The other “fact” is that all of this is totally irrevelant. What Kerry did to veterans on his return from Viet Nam is unforgivable. He built a political career on the blood and suffering of the millions who served honorably and how any self- respecting vet can stand to be in the same room with this man is beyond me.
